The EU Commission Launches an Action Plan to Integrate the Sendai Framework in EU Policies

On 16 June 2016, the EU Commission launched an Action Plan to promote DRR and its integration in EU policies. The Plan aims to translate the Sendai Framework, in the negotiations of which the EU played a key role, into EU policies. The Plan does provide for tangible actions coherent also with other recent international agreements and processes, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Abba Action Agenda, the UNFCCC, the World Humanitarian Summit and the New Urban Agenda following HABITATI III. Notably the Action Plan, covering a five-year period, is the basis for a disaster-risk-informed approach to policy making. Through an all-of-society engagement, the Plan proposes concrete activities on risk knowledge, risk investments, disaster preparedness and resilience, thereby reinforcing the EU priorities of competitiveness, research and innovation and supporting resilient sustainable development worldwide. In particular, the Plan maps EU policies meant to achieve Sendai Framework priorities, establishes monitoring and evaluation activities and elaborates implementation actions
