Post on Disaster Law in the Blog of the European Journal of International Law

Prof. Giulio Bartolini has published a post on the blog of the European Journal of International Law, namely the well-renowned EJILTalk!, where he analyses the adoption by the International Law Commission of the 18 Draft Articles on “The Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters” on their second reading, and of the Commentary, in 2016. This project might lead to the adoption of an universal treaty in this area on the basis of the recommendation made by the ILC to the UN General Assembly to elaborate a convention on the basis of the Draft Articles. The post can be accessed here.

Such an interest towards the Draft Articles was linked with the legal support provided to the Special Rapporteur Eduardo Valencia-Ospina in the past years, also involving the organization of an expert meeting on the Draft Articles adopted on first reading held at Roma Tre University in June 2015 by prof. Giulio Bartolini. The report of this international workshop involving distinguished scholars and legal advisers of main humanitarian organisations (WHO, FAO, WFP, UNISDR, UN Legal Office, IOM, NATO, IFRC, ICRC, Oxfam, Italian Red Cross) can be accessed here.
