Annual conference on ‘Human Rights and Disasters’. Speakers included academics and representatives from World Food Programme and the European Committee of Social Rights, Roma Tre University, 5 May

The second annual conference organised by the IEUDL at the Department of Law, Roma Tre University, was held on 4 May 2018 and consisted of several presentations involving representatives of International Organisations (World Food Programme, European Charter of Social Rights) and academics focusing on the respect and protection of human rights as well as humanitarian principles in disaster scenarios and the relevance of such standard for humanitarian actors – being States, International Organisations and NGOs – involved in relief activities, disaster risk reduction and recovery after a disaster. In the framework of these phases of the disaster-cycle several critical elements dealing with the human rights dimension have been addressed. It has also permitted to present the results of an edited volume on human rights and disasters permitting to highlight innovative perspectives in this area.
